3 Essential Considerations Before Having A Pool Installed

Adrian Spencer

Have you been thinking about having a pool installed? Do you think that it'd be nice to be able to go swimming without needing to go anywhere? Whether you're interested in having a pool installed for fun or for exercise, it's important to think things through before you start making inquiries. Although every pool installation is different, there are some things that every pool owner needs to decide upon before any work can begin on the pool. Some important attributes you need to think about include the following:

Pool usage requirements

If you're wanting a pool solely for exercise, you might actually want a smaller pool rather than a huge pool. A small pool can be made to have a perpetual current that you can swim against — the water equivalent of being on a treadmill. On the other hand, if you're wanting to have a pool installed mainly for fun, then you're going to want a larger pool. Even if you only have a couple of people over for a pool party, a larger pool is going to be more enjoyable than a smaller pool. Deciding exactly what you're going to be doing with a pool is probably the most important thing you need to know about any pool plans.

Fencing

In most municipalities, pool safety fences are required when you have a pool installed. It doesn't matter whether you have any children living in your home or not. If you don't like the aesthetics of the typical vertical-bar pool safety fences, you're in luck. Depending on where you are located and the company that does the fencing, you could have a variety of options. For instance, you could get plexiglass or safety glass panels instead of metal. There are even mesh options if you're worried about pets running into nearly invisible fences and potentially injuring themselves. Saltwater vs. fresh

A lot of people are choosing to have a saltwater pool system installed rather than the freshwater chlorinated system that you may be more familiar with. One big advantage of such a system is that the salt is generally easier to find and safer to store than the harsh chlorine chemicals that you'd otherwise need to use to keep your pool clean and fresh. They can also be less harsh to the surrounding environment and things like nearby plants or pool safety fences are going to be less likely to be damaged simply because they are nearby. One big disadvantage, however, is that it can sometimes be harder to find information and/or professionals to help you care for a saltwater system instead of a chlorine pool.
