Considerations For Adding A Lazy River Pool To Your Backyard

When most people think about taking a ride on a lazy river, they imagine visiting a waterpark, resort, or another similar type of attraction. What you might not realize, however, is that many custom pool companies offer residential lazy rivers — a unique type of pool that can serve as a stylish addition to your backyard and that quickly becomes the envy of your group of friends. To make the most of the lazy river, you'll need a large yard. You can then speak to a representative from your custom pool company to decide how the lazy river will look. Here are some considerations as you plan this focal point of your yard.

Shape

Give some thought to your preferred lazy river pool shape. A lazy river is typically a continuous loop, and many shapes are available. If you favor a modern design, you might want the shape to be a smooth oval. Many people favor more of a natural look, however, and this can mean choosing a shape that weaves left and right as it makes it way around the yard. A shape that has a number of curves along the route may be more entertaining for people to float along than one that is a simple oval.

Center

Because a residential lazy river is a continuous loop, you'll need to come up with a plan for what will be in the center of the loop. Your custom pool company can offer a handful of suggestions. Some people may want a large seating area, perhaps complete with shrubs and trees. Vegetation along the banks of the lazy river will help to give it a natural look, which may be something that you favor. Other ideas to consider for the space in the center of the lazy river loop include a plunge pool and/or a hot tub. One or more bridges across the lazy river will provide easy access to whatever you place in the center.

Access

A lot of family members, friends, and neighbors who enjoy floating along your lazy river will be happy to make one lap after another. There will be times, however, when someone wishes to get out quickly. For this reason, it's a good idea to provide a few access points. For example, you might have one set of stairs in one location along the lazy river, and then a sloped, shelf-style feature in another area where people can walk out with ease.
