Many factors determine how long your pool can go between resurfacings

There are a lot of things that come together to determine how long a swimming pool can go before it needs to be resurfaced again. One of these things is the type of swimming pool that you have. For example, a cement or plaster pool will generally be able to go around five years or so before needing to be resurfaced. However, fiberglass pools can sometimes go as long as a few decades before they need to be resurfaced. Also, a pool that is starting to have small cracks can have them taken care of during a resurfacing. 

The steps involved with the resurfacing process

When you are going to be having your pool resurfaced, you might want to have a clear understanding of what all is involved.

Before the pool is able to be resurfaced, the water will need to be drained from it. It takes a while to drain a pool, so the crew will likely get everything set up and begin the draining process a day before they start resurfacing the pool since they can't do anything with the water still in the pool. 

Once it is drained, they will prep the pool, and this is when they will fix small leaks if any were found and tend to any tile repairs or replacement. Next, the coating will be applied to the pool, and this will help the new finish adhere to the underlying finish. After the coating is applied, it will be time for the pool finish. As soon as the is applied, then the pool will be filled.
