Pool Leaking But You Don't Know Where? 3 Ways You Can Find It

Adrian Spencer

A leak in your pool isn't always that noticeable. Sometimes the leak is so minute that you don't see it right away until the leak begins to worsen, and by then, it may be too late. If you have a leak in your pool, you are going to want to find it right away. If your leak is beginning to be more noticeable, it's important that you find it. To help you get to the leak and make the necessary repairs, there are ways you can find it. Read on for a few of the ways you can detect a leak in your pool.

1. Feel Around Your Liner

With some liners, they may be patterned and not as easy to see a hole or a tear. In this case, you should feel around the liner from top to bottom to figure out where the leak may be coming from. If you can see water outside of the pool, you at least have a general location of where the water may be coming from to narrow down your search a bit. Feel the liner carefully so you don't snag the tear and rip it further.

2. Use Dye

Using dye that is safe for pools, add a few drops to the area where you think there is a leak. Then watch for the dye to leak out of the pool and then find the leak from there. This is a good way to find a leak when you aren't even sure if you have a leak, or you have such a minor leak that you aren't able to tell. Talk to your local pool supply store about what type of dye to use to find a leak.

3. Hire A Service

If you have no idea where your leak in your pool is coming from, you should hire a pool leak detection service to help you find the leak for you. A leak detection service can detect a leak even if it's in the bottom of your pool or right next to your skimmer opening, where it may be hidden. If you have a leak in your pool, a leak detection service can find it.

If you have a leak in your swimming pool and you aren't able to find where it's coming from, you should hire a service to find the leak for you. You could end up losing your pool altogether if you don't take care of a leak in your pool, as it could become a major issue.
